Out of print for a considerable time, their 2003 debut album is thankfully now available once more on CD in 2016, and it has been given Mid-Price status!

GAZPACHO is one of the finest and most unique bands we have come across in many years!
Now firm favourites with CDS customers too, they are an amazing Norwegian Progressive / Art-Rock band playing music styled very much in the crossover field between MARILLION and RADIOHEAD. Their sound is dark and haunting but mellow and melodic and always heavily steeped in atmosphere.

GAZPACHO was originally formed in Oslo in 1996 by childhood friends Jon-Arne Vilbo and Thomas Andersen, along with Jan-Henrik Ohme (later joined by Mikael Krømer, Lars Eric Asp and Kristian Torp). Between 2003 and 2016 the band have released 9 Studio and 3 ‘Live’ Albums. Their first four releases were originally self-released until ‘Tick Tock’ came along in 2009 when it was a Sony Europe release, giving it a wider reach over Europe.
Prior to ‘Tick Tock’ the band had only very limited mail-order distribution in the UK through MARILLION’s Racket Records, and they were largely unavailable anywhere else in the UK until CDS Towers got to work and heavily promoted them via our mail-order operation. After recommending the band to our contact at Snapper/K-Scope Records, GAZPACHO were subsequently signed to K-Scope in 2010, and the label gave them an international release with their 2011 album: ‘Missa Atropos’. By 2016 several more Studio and ‘Live’ albums have been issued by K-Scope, plus a budget ‘Introducing’ sampler in 2015 to aid expanding their audience further.

Now in 2016 the label are issuing the remainder of the bands’ early albums that are as yet unreleased in the UK, alongside Mid-Price re-issues of some of the later GAZPAGHO albums that K-Scope have previously made available here in limited formats. This album is part of that batch of 2016 releases…

Even at this early stage, ‘Bravo’ showed GAZPACHO were proving themselves to be highly skilled in both the song writing and musicianship department, and were already developing a sound very much of their own!
‘Sea Of Tranquillity’ with it’s use of ethereal Mellotron and other synths is a perfect example of their flair for strong melody and melancholy with an approach that makes them unique and different from any other Prog / art-rock band around. The dynamics of the playing is another huge plus point. Check-out the brilliant piano lead on ‘Ghost’ for an example of how good they are at embedding hooks into the structure of their songs, and add to that a fine chorus and a smouldering guitar at the end and you have all the elements of a perfect Prog song and the kind that draws you back for more and more. ‘Sun God’ captures then at their atmospheric best with Jan-Henrik’s wistful vocal rolling over a mist of smouldering electric guitar and hazy keyboards – ‘Novgorod’ is the same, featuring some really inventive keyboard playing - addictive music or what! The keyboard laden: ‘Ease Your Mind’ is about as intense (if you could call it that) as GAZPACHO get on this album, finishing the album with the title track where the instrumental power comes and goes in-between traces of traditional Norwegian folk sounds over a passionate vocal performance from Jan-Henrik.
‘Bravo’ proved to be a fantastic start to GAZPACHO’s career!

In 2003 GAZPACHO line-up was: Jan-Henrik Ohme (vocals), Jon-Arne Vilbo (guitars), Thomas Andersen (keyboards & programming) and Roy Funner (bass), with others guesting on various tracks.
