With seven releases (6 CD’s and 1 DVD+CD set) already under their belt, the neo-progressive rock band KNIGHT AREA are real achievers - their strong and catchy songs already having brought them much in the way of international success, and ‘Heaven & Beyond’ gives you all that and more.
Powerful guitars, fluent sweeping keyboards, a pounding rhythm section and addictive melodic vocals characterize KNIGHT AREA’s music. In their own words, the band describes their music as “symphonic rock music with a variety of styles and very melodic keyboards & guitars.”
After my first listen I can tell you that the production on ‘Heaven & Beyond’ is big, with each and every track coming over as powerfully thematic and at times anthemic, with edgy, riffing guitars, massive keyboard backdrops and a tight rhythm section providing a strong foundation for fiery, high flying solos from both the strings and ivories.
The vocals are smooth and set in the mid-high register area, with the band’s harmony work also being of an exceptionally high standard. Prog really doesn’t come more melodic than this, but KNIGHT AREA maintains enough of a consistently high level of aggression within this music that keeps your attention from start to finish.
Founded in 2004 by composer and keyboardist Gerben Klazinga, KNIGHT AREA is a worldwide successful band with great live performances in Europe, Japan, and the United States.
The band consists of five members, including Mark Smit (vocals and keyboard), Pieter van Hoorn (drums), Mark Bogert (guitars) and Peter Vink (bass), former member of Q65.
‘Heaven & Beyond’ is released on 10th February 2017 and is KNIGHT AREA’s first album for a new label… and it certainly sounds like it is going to be a biggie!
