2013 Steven Wilson Remix in Hi-Res Stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Exclusive Bonus Audio in a Deluxe Mini Vinyl Replica Card Cover with 28-Page Booklet!

Has Steven Wilson found a supply of magic fairy dust on the Internet or something? Well no, he just has a love of good music, how it should sound and an amazing pair or ears (or does he have three others hidden beneath the hair for the Surround Sound stuff :-)
As well as the superior Blu-Ray sound quality, many of you will be buying this to experience Steven Wilson’s first time Surround Mixes and possibly all the Additional Material that comes in this package, but honestly, even the new Stereo Mix is something else!!
Even with my aging eardrums, this sounds unbelievably brilliant – different but not different, if you get my drift.
Every instrument sounds perfect and exactly where it should be in the band’s sound-space.
You get the feeling that you are listening to the album back through the studio speakers off the multi-track tapes as opposed to after it’s been though all the various processing stages before it reaches us, the music consumer.
It is all very natural sounding now, and you pick up each and every instrument as it is working in the mix.
I recently sampled what Steven did with his new mix of Jethro Tull’s ‘Benefit’ album – an unbelievably natural transition, as is his work on ‘Close To The Edge’… and you won’t believe his new mix of ‘America’, which gives you the feeling that you are standing on stage with the band for Chrissakes! 10 out of 10 for this one Steven J

This new 2013 edition of ‘Close To The Edge’ is the first in a series of expanded YES albums and includes 5.1 Surround Mixes, new Stereo Mixes & High-Resolution Stereo Mixes of the original music along with a Wealth of Extra Material. Acclaimed musician/producer Steven Wilson has produced the new mixes with the approval of the band, while Roger Dean reprises his role as art director/designer of the newly issued edition, making this the definitive edition of the album.

Mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE) and fully approved by YES, the CD features a Completely New Stereo Album Mix and a New Mix of the track: ‘America’. The CD also features an early mix/assembly of: ‘Close To The Edge’.

The Blu-Ray features 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Surround (24bit/96khz) mixed from the Original Multi-Channel Recordings and also the New Stereo Album Mix in DTS-HD Master Audio (24bit/96khz).
In addition the Blu-Ray features the Original Album Mix and the track ‘America’ in a DTS-HD Master Audio Flat Transfer from the Original Master Tape Source (24bit/192khz).
The Blu-Ray exclusively features Instrumental Versions of all New Mixes in DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo (24bit/96khz) and a Needle-Drop of an Original UK Vinyl A1/B1 Pressing transferred in 24bit/96khz audio.
Numerous Audio Extras appear in High-Resolution Stereo including Single Edits & Studio Run Throughs of album tracks.

Presented as a slightly larger than normal 135mm x 135mm Mini Vinyl Replica Gatefold Card Sleeve with 20-Page (also slightly larger) Booklet featuring New Sleeve Notes by writer Sid Smith along with Rare Photos and Archive Material. It uses all the Original Imagery by Roger Dean - who has also overseen the artwork for this new edition – and includes a page that replicates both sides of the Green Insert that came with the original vinyl album, so all the fine detail has been accounted for.

When YES entered the studio with Eddie Offord to record the band’s 5th studio album in mid-1972, their 2nd with this line-up of: Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass / vocals), Rick Wakeman (keyboards), Bill Bruford (drums) and Steve Howe (guitars / vocals), the band was on something of a roll. ‘Fragile’, the band’s previous album, had taken YES to a new level of international popularity with Top Ten chart placement on both sides of the Atlantic and yielding a hit single in the USA with ‘Roundabout’. The band was now established in the major music markets to an extent that was, perhaps, unexpected given the complexity of the music YES performed. But with that popularity came a confidence that the expansive material of the two previous albums could be taken a stage further with the new recording. Rather than consolidating, YES chose to innovate. Recorded during lengthy sessions at London’s Advision Studios, ‘Close To The Edge’ is that rarity in recorded music, the sound of a band and its individual members writing, playing and recording at the peak of their collective abilities.
The album was issued in Autumn 1972 reaching chart highs and platinum sales status of # 4 in the UK, # 3 in the USA & # 1 in Holland, though such statistics only hint at the worldwide popularity of the album over a period of more than four decades. Of the three pieces of music on the album, the title track which spanned the entire first side of the vinyl album with ‘And You And I’ & ‘Siberian Khatru’ on side two, have remained concert favourites since release, with the 2013 YES line-up currently in the middle of a world tour stretching into the middle of next year that sees the album performed in its entirety.
The album remains the favourite among many of the band’s legion of fans, a defining recording both for the band and for the Progressive Rock movement.

PORCUPINE TREE’s Steven Wilson has been one of the most prominent proponents of Surround Sound in recent memory. In the recent past the singer/songwriter/musician/producer has spearheaded Deluxe Editions of classic albums from: HAWKWIND, KING CRIMSON, JETHRO TULL and EMERSON LAKE & PALMER with stunning new 5.1 Mixes, and made his own acclaimed 2013 solo album ‘Raven That Refused To Sing’ available in High-Resolution surround formats, as well.
Now he has been charged with doing the same for the 1972 YES classic: ‘Close To The Edge’, the first in a series of expanded YES editions!

If you’re a YES fan You probably own multiple copies of ‘Close To The Edge’, but even the most jaded ears should prick up at the thought of a 5.1 Version, and even if that doesn't do it the promise of "bonus audio" should get the wallet creaking open for one last final purchase of it!

‘Close To The Edge’ is also available as a CD+DVDA – Stock # 1628069
