2014 CD reissue of a 1984 L.S.O. RCA Red Seal recording featuring the music and members: Anderson, Barre, Vitesse and Pegg of JETHRO TULL!
‘A Classic Case’ features orchestral versions of TULL tracks re-worked by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dee Palmer with Ashley Arbuckle taking the position of orchestra leader.
Ian Anderson features of flute throughout with sizable contributions also coming from band members (at the time): Martin Barre (guitars), Peter Vitesse (keyboards) and Dave Pegg (bass).
The original LP was issued in the US in 1985 on the RCA label’s classical imprint Red Seal and it had a limited CD release in 2006.
Musically much of TULL’s music is ideally suited to these kind of re-workings and the ten tracks on this record are a particularly fine example of how well this kind of thing can be done, and the fact that the band members themselves were involved in the process somehow galvanizes the finished result into being something a bit special.
This is a very enjoyable recording, not only for JETHRO TULL fans but also for lovers of good orchestral music too!
