First, a short introduction to The SAMURAI OF PROG…
This multinational ensemble was formed around 2009 as a project lead by Finland-based, Italian composer and bassist Marco Bernard. Marco has been active in the Finnish association for Progressive Music since 1995, and had been involved in their Colossus Magazine since 1996. He was also instrumental in the ‘Colossus’ series of themed albums created in cooperation with French label: Musea. It was for a contribution to one of those projects that SAMURAI OF PROG was born, and joining Bernard as permanent members were USA multi-instrumentalist: Steve Unruh and Finnish drummer: Kimmo Pörsti. Besides this core trio, the philosophy of this band appeared to be to involve additional musicians as needed and wanted, and their 2011 debut effort: ‘Undercover’ bore testimony to that line of thinking, with a list of guest appearances impressive in length, scope as well as quality – ‘On We Sail’ is no exception.
A 2nd album based on similar philosophy came along in 2013. Entitled: ‘Secret Of Disguise’ was a double album and that lead on to the release of: ‘Imperial Hotel’, the epic 2014 studio production which featured members of: ENGLAND (UK), GLASS HAMMER (USA), KENSO (Japan), ANGLAGARD (Sweden) and GENESIS tribute act The MUSICAL BOX (Canada)!
And in 2016 came the wonderfully lavish (musically and physically) production that is: ‘Lost & Found’.

The concept for ‘Lost & Found’ came from Marco Bernard’s idea of recording tracks written by various Prog band members who had in their personal archives material they had composed for band albums that were left off the final productions concerned.
Members of bands such as: PAVLOV’S DOG, LIFT, ODYSSEY, CATHEDRAL and QUILL have all contributed some of their archived compositions for re-working as TSOP pieces. So ‘Lost & Found’ is a sort of “Progressive rock musicological restoration project” with its selected unearthed compositions dusted off, re-worked and newly recorded into a large polished collection of lost 70’s Prog gems – a sort of phoenix rising from the ashes story!

As well as the obvious influential sounds that reflect the material of the bands from which the composers came, there are classic Prog styles of bands such as: YES, PFM, MACHIAVEL, GLASS HAMMER and JETHRO TULL and more, but overall this is sixty-five minutes of excellent original Progressive Rock that features a good balance of vocal and instrumental passages. On tracks that range from medium to very long, alongside all the standard instrumentation of the time you hear classic keyboard sounds of the seventies (yes Mini-Moogs and Mellotrons are there by the truckload) alongside some of the acoustic favourites on the period such as flute and violin.

Musicians taking part are core members: Marco Bernard (Rickenbacker bass), Kimmo Pörsti (drums / percussion / audio engineering) and Steve Unruh (vocals / violin / flute), with Stefan Renstrom (keyboards / arrangements), David Myers (piano / composer), Tom Doncourt (keyboards / composer), Chip Gremillion (keyboards / composer) and Ken DeLoria (composer) all contributing.
Special guests on various tracks are: Johan Oijen (electric & acoustic guitars on ‘She’, ‘Plight Of The Swan’ and ‘The Demise’), Kamran Alan Shikoh (electric guitar on ‘Inception’), Jon Davison (vocals on ‘She’), Steve Scorfina (electric guitar on ‘Preludin’), Richard Maddocks (narration on ‘The Demise’), Keith Christian (vocals on ‘The Demise’), Mark Trueack (vocals on ‘The Demise’), Linus Kase (saxophones on ‘The Demise’) and Llorian Garcia (electronic bagpipes on ‘The Demise’).

Like its predecessor: ‘Imperial Hotel’, this too comes in an ultra-lavish physical package made up of a Triple Gate-Fold Card Sleeve with 32-Page Full-Colour Booklet included along with inner Picture Card Sleeves.

‘Lost & Found’ was released on 6th May 2016.
