About this artist and his influences…
Jim Ottaway is already known at CDS Towers for his Melodic Instrumental Space Ambient series of CD-R releases: ‘Aurora’, ‘Orion’, ‘Centauri’ and ‘Liquid Moon’. Those, together with other themed releases: ‘Chill Factor’ and ‘Blitz’, plus his more recent factory pressed titles: ‘Power’ (originally a 2013 CD-R, but re-released in January 2015 on CD), 2015’s ‘Invisible Vortex’ and 2016’s ‘Southern Cross’, both of which are Digi-Pak productions, all stylishly presenting Jim's musical alter-ego as someone who injects 100% heart and soul into the music he makes and great attention to detail into how he presents it to his public.
While trying to create his own style of electronic music, Jim openly acknowledges the influence that artists such as: TANGERINE DREAM, Edgar Froese, ENIGMA, Vangelis, PINK FLOYD, Johannes Schmoelling, Christopher Franke, CODE INDIGO, Gary Wright, RADIO MASSACRE INTERNATIONAL and Aussie artists: Christopher Buckman, Tony O'Connor and Lisa Gerrard have had on his music over the years.
About this album…
‘Somewhere In-Between’ follows on from Jim’s his well-received 2021 ambient album: ‘Threshold Of The Universe’, and his international award-winning album: ‘When Eternity Touches Time’, ‘Deep Space Blue’ and ‘Timeless e-Motion’.
‘Somewhere In-Between’ consists of 11 tracks all focusing in on that special place in-between heaven and earth… a place of love and timelessness... a place of intrigue and uncertainty… a place of promise and the future.
As with Jim’s other electronic albums he covers many sub-genres of electronic music in this album including a touch of “Berlin School”, melodic electronic and ambient, and some pure EM.
Jim composes and records all his music in his home studio situated at the foothills of the beautiful Springbrook Mountain on the Gold Coast of Australia. The tracks on this album were chosen from many hours of recorded music he has accumulated in his music vaults. Some tracks were composed and recorded as early as 2008. However, additional recordings have been added during early 2022 while this album was being produced. Recording and production were completed in April 2022.
Each of Jim’s last nine albums received nominations in worldwide music awards. In July 2021, he was awarded ‘Best Electronic Album’ for his ‘When Eternity Touches Time’ album at the 17th Annual Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) Awards in New Orleans, USA.
Jim was also given two awards at the 14th Annual ZMR Awards in 2018 for his ‘Deep Space Blue’ (Best Ambient Album) and ‘Timeless e-Motion’ (Best Electronic Album). Jim has also received ZMR Album Of The Year nominations for ‘When Eternity Touches Time’ and ‘Deep Space Blue’.
All tracks are composed, performed, produced and mastered by Jim Ottaway.
