Back in 2008, we were totally blown away by former PYRAMID PEAK member Axel Stupplich’s ‘Voices At Dawn’ album issued under the name AXESS. Playing analogue, digital & native synthesizers, AXESS delivered over 67 minutes of powerful, melodic, rhythmic electronic music on an album that was a total thriller from start to finish, alive with sounds that echoed classic JEAN-MICHEL JARRE and TANGERINE DREAM!
When ‘Fusion’, the stunning follow-up to ‘Voices’ came along in 2010, we just had to delve further into the AXESS and related back-catalogue, where we discovered two amazing albums recorded in 2004 and 2010, where Axel had teamed up with multi-talented fellow German musician Max Schiefele (electric & acoustic guitars and synthesizers) using the AXESS-MAXXESS banner.
On the back of these two exciting CD’s we went on to discover this and other MAXXESS solo titles.
As with the AXESS-MAXXESS releases, the MAXXESS solo albums make you think of instrumental PINK FLOYD or PORCUPINE TREE meeting TANGERINE DREAM - A progressive-electronic crossover, where synthesizers and electric guitars meet in an exciting meld of instrumental fusion that delivers similarly high-energy, melodic music with an added progressive edge brought by the melodic but heavy feel of the MAXXESS guitar sound.

MAXXESS albums are something else! With all the guitars, synth, bass and drums played by the one, obviously highly talented musician, the albums sound like band creations! With the amps set on stun, and excitement levels peaking in the red, these CD’s feature instrumental music overflowing with melody and dripping with pure dynamic energy that grips from start to finish. However, this is not, over-the-top self-indulgent guitar flash – far from it, this is thrilling, spine-tingling electrifying instrumental music, fuelled with ear grabbing hooks and guitar riffs that are tasteful and exciting at the same time.
