Excellent 2014 solo debut by the keyboards player from Scottish Progressive Rock band CITIZEN CAIN with guest vocalists from ARYEON & The WATCH!

‘The Antechamber Of Being (Part 1)’ is a Prog Rock opera featuring substantial contributions from five vocalists: Simone Rossetti (The WATCH), Arjen Anthony Lucassen (AYREON), Bekah Mhairi Comrie, Phil Allen (CITIZEN CAIN) and Stewart Bell himself.

The story is based on Stewart's own experiences as a lifelong lucid dreamer and follows the adventures of a young boy as he masters the ability to control his dreams. This epic concept album chronicles the key events in his life, the weird synchronicities, strange experiences, and profound questions that naturally arise when one grows up living in the twin worlds of dreams and reality.

This new work sees Stewart continue the musical path he has embarked on over the last 25 years with CITIZEN CAIN, although this time he has taken the reins, not just with the compositions, but also with the lyrics, concept, vocal melodies and entire production. It also introduces Stewart's artwork on the album cover and inside the 28-Page CD booklet.

The first in a trilogy, ‘The Antechamber Of Being [Part 1]’ will appeal not only to existing CITIZEN CAIN fans but also to a much wider audience as Stewart delves into pure Prog with some elements of Prog Metal, experiments with new soundscapes and brings his unique storytelling gift to the lyrics, in which he also shares his extensive knowledge of lucid dreaming.

The continuous 74 minutes of musical evolution, powerful songs, recurring themes and complex instrumental sections will be sure to please any lover of progressive music while the intriguing, amusing and, at times, touching storyline may even inspire the listener to take control of their own subconscious mind and experience lucid dreaming for themselves...

This is a real “Progressive” style concept album, and having played it through start to finish just once, I think it is an excellent adventurous body of work that Stewart has so obviously thrown his heart and soul into, but due to the complexities of the story-line and musical arrangements, it will need several plays to get to grips with. However, one play was enough to reveal the outstanding quality of the playing, production and vocal arrangement, and with plenty in the way of melody, dynamics and light & shade coming in along the way, I believe that getting into ‘The Antechamber Of Being [Part 1]’ via multiple airings can only be an extended pleasure for myself and most other Prog fans for sure!
