Some Notes on the recording of ‘Last Alien’ by Gert Emmens:
"After I decided to do an album with old pre-MIDI synthesizers only (plus guitar and drums) the first step was to record the sequences. For this, I could use the huge Moog 55 modular system that belongs to Dazzlinj - A modular with some history, since it once belonged to Johan Timman and was used on his ‘Trip Into The Body’ album.
The sequences were recorded during two separate days earlier in 2016. The modular gave me quite a hard time, it is hardly possible to keep it in tune! Once tuned and the recording starts you just hear the sequencer slowly (or not that slowly) getting out of tune again! So, a matter of patience and keeping its fantastic massive sound in mind was important.
During the first recording day, I could also use Dazzlinj’s ARP 2600 to record some sound effects.
The rest of the album was done at my home studio between May 23rd and June 30th, 2016.
There are always plenty of old analogs around to work with :-) … Besides that, I was lucky to have kept all the sound effects and the arpeggio (2nd half of ‘Part 5’), done with a Memorymoog that I had on a loan back in 2007 for a few months.
For the first time, I recorded acoustic drums in my studio. I have to be thankful to my neighbours for not complaining about the drum volume during the days I recorded them...
‘Last Alien’ was finally mixed and mastered during the first week of July, 2016 and set for release in August.
I would like to dedicate this album to all my fans that keep supporting me. It means much to me."

‘Last Alien’ is released on 25th August 2016.
