Released over several editions, this is the ‘Abridged’ 2LP+CD version of the fantastic 2021 album by the Morse-Portnoy-Stolt-Trewavas supergroup!

‘Absolute Universe’ is the 2020 / 2021 studio album from TRANSATLANTIC … Neal Morse (ex SPOCK’S BEARD – vocals / piano / Hammond organ / Mini-Moog / Mellotron / acoustic guitar / Churango), Roine Stolt (FLOWER KINGS – electric & acoustic 6 & 12-string guitars / keyboards / percussion), Pete Trewavas (MARILLION – vocals / bass) and Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER – vocals / drums / percussion).

TRANSATLANTIC have produced it in TWO EDITIONS, which though they are the same album, aren’t actually the same album!! They are more, shall we say, variations on a theme and each version (‘Forevermore’ and ‘Breath Of Life’) is different to the other, though essentially the same thing!!

Confused? Well, we were at first, but this is how the band describe it… and it does clarify a few things…
“We've come up with something unprecedented,” says Mike Portnoy proudly.
“We've got two versions of this album. There's a 2CD presentation (‘Forevermore’), which is 90 minutes long, PLUS a single one (‘Breath Of Life’), which is 60 minutes long.
The Single CD is NOT an edited version of the Double CD. They're new recordings. What we have done are different approaches to the songs for this! We wrote fresh lyrics and have different people singing on the Single CD version tracks, as compared to those on the Double CD.
We revamped the songs to make the two versions different.”
“What we have is essentially one giant composition, split into chapters. The storyline is about the struggles facing everyone in society today,” comments Portnoy.

So, we have two different versions of ‘Absolute Universe’, featuring some tracks with the same title on both, and some titles on one but not the other, and vice versa – Check out the track lists of both below.
However, as explained above the duplicated titles are not the same on each version.

This ‘Breath Of Life’ 2LP+CD (and CD) version has 3 TRACK TITLES that are EXLUSIVE to that edition. All the other 11 tracks are common to this set and ‘Forevermore’, but again they are different versions with different playing times (some quite radical) and with different lyrics and vocalists.

The ‘Forevermore’ 3LP+2CD (and 2CD) version has 7 TRACK TITLES that are EXCLUSIVE to that edition. All of the other 11 tracks are common to this set and ‘Breath Of Life’, but they are different versions with different playing times (some quite radical) and with different lyrics and vocalists.

The ‘Absolute Universe - Ultimate’ BluRay version features the 5.1 Surround Sound Mix Version with visuals and the ‘Making-of’ Documentary, all originally included in the now deleted Limited Deluxe Box Set!

Regardless of any confusion about the track details, all of the music over the two versions of ‘Absolute Universe’ is totally top notch right the way through both.
TRANSATLANTIC are to Prog in the naughties what the BEATLES were to pop in the sixties. These guys are the cream of the crop – they are Prog royalty and this album drives that message home loud and clear.
They do everything just perfectly right from start to finish, seemingly making all the right moves and twists and turns just at the right time and just how the fans love it! This is pure melodic Power Prog immersed in a lavish production, featuring brilliant songwriting, superb playing and perfectly delivered vocals and harmonies.
This is “sends shivers down the spine” style melody fuelled Prog loaded with the sounds that all dedicated Prog fans adore: Hammond organ, Mini-Moog, Mellotron, high flying electric & strummed acoustic guitars, all kept in check by a top quality driving rhythm section.
Whether you are into RUSH, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS or YES, modern day Progressive Rock really does not come much better than how TRANSATLANTIC does it!
