Trion

Trion Group Picture-PI.JPGThe TRION project was born from an idea of FLAMBOROUGH HEAD's keyboard player Edo Spanninga in the early noughties.  It all happened quite by accident when he tested some recording equipment in order to record Seventies styled music as a fun-project.  Edo was so excited about the results that he recruited another FLAMBOROUGH HEAD member: Eddie Mulder (guitars & bass) and ODYSSICE drummer Menno Boomsma to produce an album.

The name TRION is a contraction of the words 'trio' and '(Mello)tron', simply because the band was a trio and because Edo only used Mellotron keyboard sounds on the band’s first album.

The trio enjoyed making music under the TRION banner because they total freedom to exchange ideas and work on the arrangements.  It was also very important to them that their music was never going to be seen by Progressive rock fans as FLAMBOROUGH HEAD or ODYSSICE leftovers.

Their warm and melodic instrumental music ranges from Progressive Symphonic Rock to Classical and Folk inspired and contains hints of many other classic bands’ in the Prog genre such as: IQ, mid period GENESIS, early BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST, GREENSLADE and YES, as well as bands from the early British Progressive Rock Movement like SPRING and GRACIOUS!

While keyboards are the predominant driving force within TRION, the music also contains much in the way of fine guitar work and drumming to compliment the moving flute, oboe, cello, vibes, strings & choral Mellotron sounds!
