The ‘Beneath The Waves’ album format harks back to the classic story based concept albums of the 1970’s and Robert Reed (MAGENTA / CHIMMPAN A / CYAN / SANCTUARY) was joined by an all-star cast of performers for its creation.
The original album was released in 2012 and was welcomed with rave reviews, going on to become a CDS Towers best seller!

The 2026 ‘Director’s Cut’ edition has been Expanded, Remixed and Re-Arranged with 3 New Tracks added, bringing it up to a new running time of 77 Minutes! It also features new guest contributions.
There are 2 Editions on the 2026 issue to choose from…
This Deluxe Edition of the CD album comes with a 28-Page 7” Square Book featuring info and photos from the making of the album and several Postcards, one of which will be autographed by Robert Reed.
And the Standard Edition of the CD album comes in a 4-Panel Gate-Fold Card Sleeve.

Beside the musical contributions of Robert Reed (bass guitar / keyboards / acoustic and electric guitars) he invited a plethora of excellent musicians and singers to take part in the making on ‘Beneath The Waves’.
Centre stage of the album is the stunning vocals of Steve Balsamo (Jon Lord / SUPERSTAR / CHIMPAN A) and Angharad Brinn (SANCTUARY / CYAN / CHIMPAN A).
On drums we have Gavin Harrison (PORCUPINE TREE / PINEAPPLE THIEF), who provides the album with a wonderful groove.
The guitar parts are performed by great players like Steve Hackett (ex-GENESIS), Nick Barrett (PENDRAGON), Neil Taylor (TEARS FOR FEARS / Robbie Williams), Jakko Jackzyk (KING CRIMSON), Francis Dunnery (IT BITES), Chris Fry (MAGENTA), John Mitchell (ARENA / FROST * / IT BITES) and BJ Cole (ex-Elton John, ex-David Gilmour).
On Chapman stick we hear Nick Beggs (KAJAGOOGOO / ex-Steve Hackett / Steve Wilson bands), while Mel Collins (KING CRIMSON / ex- CAMEL) contributed on sax.
Undoubtedly one of the most important musicians is Troy Donockley (NIGHTWISH / IONA / BAD SHEPHERDS) as his parts performed on the Uilleann pipes and the whistles provided the album a certain melancholic feel and above all a distinct Irish-Gaelic atmosphere.
Furthermore you can enjoy contributions of the English Chamber Choir conducted by Guy Protheroe, the London Session Orchestra conducted by Dave Stewart (EGG / HATFIELD & THE NORTH / NATIONAL HEALTH) and renowned opera singers like Rhys Meirion and Shan Cothi.

"The album was a labour of love. I thought that the format of making a classic rock album had been lost, where artists like Jeff Wayne and his ‘War Of The Worlds’ album would bring in the best singers and best session players and make an album without compromise. These days it's all out of a computer and file sharing. I wanted as much to be real and benefit from what each singer and player brought to the table with their talent.

It took over 3 years to make, and I had so many highlights. Recording the same choir that sang on Rick Wakeman's ‘Journey’ and ‘King Arthur’ albums, in the famous Abbey Road studios being one. Recording a full string orchestra in Angel studios, arranged by Dave Stewart was equally amazing.

I always thought the album was one of the best things I’ve ever done, so as it was out of print, I thought it would be a great opportunity to get the album to a new audience. Also there were some compromises made with the original album, as there always are towards the end of making any album. Some songs are left off because of time constraints, some not finished and other choices made in the mix, as you really run out of time and have to say it's finished at some point. So with fresh ears it's been great to address some of these issues and put it back as a more complete album, with the missing tracks all finished up. This also meant that I could bring in a few more contributions from great players, like Peter Jones (CAMEL / TIGER MOTH TALES / CYAN) and Les Penning (Mike Oldfield). It really is complete now and probably the best album I've ever made.”
