About this 2014 Remastered Re-Issue…

The sensation was complete in 1982 – Jean-Michel Jarre was the first Western pop musician allowed to perform in China after Mao’s death. The five concerts in Shanghai and Peking by the electronic pop genius turned out to be a comprehensive triumph!

For Jarre to re-create his music in this ‘live’ setting he needed the assistance of two other keyboard players and a drummer, so the musician / equipment line-up for this album reads as follows: Jean-Michel Jarre (Fairlight / Eminent / OBX A / Taurus / AKS / VCS3 / Elka / Lynn drum / Micro Synthe Electroharmonix / Laser Harp), Frederic Rousseau (Polysequencer MBD / RSF / Yamaha CS60 / Korg KR55 / ARP 2600), Dominique Perrier (Moog Liberation / Prophet 5 / Eminent / Korg Polyphonic / Kobol) and Roger Rizitelli (electronic percussion / Simmons drums).

The music recorded at the concerts is intermixed with audio snapshots from his trip to China used as links between the tracks played, and these are a mix of new material and new re-interpretations of tracks from ‘Equinoxe’ and ‘Magnetic Fields’.

The 2014 edition of ‘Concerts In China’ has been Remastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Dave Dadwater for Yakuda Audio 2014. The newly Remastered sound is excellent and packs a lot of punch over the entire frequency range. The CD has an 8-Page Booklet and the discs themselves have a high quality, full-colour on-body Picture Label that uses the front cover artwork image, so all-in-all, this is a great value-for-money product.

About Jean Michel Jarre…

Jean-Michel Jarre first came to international fame with his number one hit album: ‘Oxygene’ which went on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide!
A pioneer in his field, Jarre has made an immense contribution to the fastest growing musical revolution of all times: Electronic Music - conceiving music in terms of sounds rather than only in terms of notes, thus allowing the composer to become his own craftsman.
Having followed formal studies of harmony and counterpoint at the Conservatoire de Paris, he was inspired to reinvent music at its core, with his own singular vision, deploying the technology and tools of today. This pioneering approach gave birth to worldwide hit albums such as: ‘Oxygene’, ‘Equinoxe’, ‘Magnetic Fields’, ‘Zoolook’, ‘Rendezvous’, ‘Waiting For Cousteau’, ‘Chronologie’, and ‘Aero’… and sold over 80 million albums to date!

Following through with his revolution in music, he also conceived a brand-new genre and format of concerts; breaking away from the traditional theatre and arena context, Jarre brought his music and vision outdoors to the masses. Often free and open-to-all, these state-of-the-art concert-spectaculars showcase the natural or urban environment in which they are performed – truly singular, sonic and visual 'land-art' events, conceived and performed on a unique scale for a one-off experience.
Jarre’s legendary concerts have attracted Guinness Record-breaking audiences across the planet!
They take place in exceptional settings, marking extra-ordinary contexts: he was the first western musician invited to perform in post-Mao Red China, Millennium at the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Houston City concert in collaboration with NASA in memory of the Challenger space crew, Concert for His Holiness Pope John Paul II, France’s Eiffel Tower in celebration of World Cup football victory, Gdansk’s shipyard at the initiative of Nobel Peace Laureate Lech Walesa, London’s Docklands, Beijing’s Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, the Sahara Desert … to the absolute record live audience of 3.5 million in Moscow.
Most recently, Jean-Michel Jarre embarked on his first ever world tour, which has already taken him to over 30 countries with over 220 performances. July 2011, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco called upon Jean-Michel Jarre to celebrate his Royal Wedding by creating and performing a concert/event in the Principality, which was broadcast worldwide. The French musician has a dedicated ongoing engagement to the United Nations via UNESCO, as Ambassador and spokesperson for Environment and Education. Jean-Michel Jarre was elected President of CISAC in Washington June 6, 2013, succeeding the late Robin Gibb.
At present (May 2014), Jarre is working on a new studio album.
