Rare archive concert recording by melodic keyboards driven, ELP styled power-Prog trio from the 70’s with synth maestro Peter Seiler at the helm!
TRITONUS was founded in 1972 by keyboardist, composer and producer Peter Seiler – an amazing musician well-known to CDS Towers’ customers throughout the 90’s and for his performance at one of the ‘Electronica’ music festivals he gave in Sheffield in the same decade!
From the beginning the plan was to make orchestral rock and classical music serve as the foundation of their sound. This was something they did in spades, often sounding like the greatest ELP track you'd never heard!
The release of a self-produced single: ‘The Way Of Spending Time’ was followed in 1975 by their debut album: ‘Tritonus’ which caused quite a stir on the German Progressive Rock scene at the time.
But it was in September 1976, with the second album: ‘Between The Universes’, that the band really found its ultimate sound. Even more-so than before, synthesizers dominated the sound, and the album brought Seiler the reputation of being the very best German synth player of the genre.
The album achieved great reviews in the press, leading to their epic April 1977 concert for the popular radio series: "Nachtmusik im WDR". The concert was acclaimed for its use of a full classical choir and large pipe organ, and the band of the time (Peter Seiler [keyboards], Rolf D. Schnapka [bass / vocals] and Arthur Weiss [drums]) went from there to recording this gig at Stagge's Hotel in Osterholz-Scharmbeck on 14th of October 1977.
After another single entitled: ‘Trojan Horse’, TRITONUS disbanded, and whilst this was a set-back, Seiler had already recorded his widely acclaimed debut album ‘Keyboard & Friends’ with which he launched a successful solo career with the legendary German electronic music label: I.C. Records.
Peter Seiler - seen by many fans of the genre as the German Vangelis - still continues to record on his own label today.
‘Far In The Sky-Live At Stagge’s Hotel 1977’ is released on 5th February 2016.
