One half of the EM duo VOLT with a new partner and playing powerful melodic Prog inspired instrumental music in the vein of ANDY PICKFORD & PYRAMAXX!

‘Stealing Time’ is future classic – it has time travel as it’s central theme - and it’s as good an instrumental synth album as I have heard in a long time! It is fresh exciting, energetic, powerful, atmospheric at times, extremely melodic and it has real fire in its belly – almost a kind of Synth Rock album!

Normally Steve Smith partners Michael Shipway in VOLT, but here he is part of a new duo with Robin Banks. Basically you should think full-on melodic, panoramic synth music that contains many elements of the sounds and styles (high register synths, choirs, organ piano etc.) as used in Progressive Rock style keyboard work!

I started to draft a track-by-track review for this album, but it’s not necessary as this album contains similarly consistent music from start to finish, and a general overview really just does hit the mark.

I would label ‘Stealing Time’ as like classic Andy Pickford or Michael Shipway meets WAVESTAR or PYRAMAXX. The melodies are huge, the chord changes are awe inspiring, the synth (and keyboard in general) soloing is out of this world and it has piano and organ work that is fantastic too - and it’s all incredibly exciting and infectious. If you like tuneful exciting Synth music that you can really “get into”, then this really has the lot!

Unfortunately I can’t tell you who is playing what on the album because there are no equipment details given in the sleeve notes, but contrary to what I initially thought, it appears that both musicians are purely keyboardists using electronic percussion and effects.
One thing is certain though – together they construct really strong music and these guys really can PLAY!!

‘Stealing Time’ is certainly is not music from the “Berlin School” - it is far more composed and tightly constructed than that term implies. Basically, if you like thematic keyboard / synth music with high levels of musicality, strong rhythms and good deal of bite, then this album is DEFINITELY for you!

Oh, and also contrary to the initial pre-release info, ‘Stealing Time’ comes in a Jewel Case, not a Digi-Pak as previously advertised.

‘Stealing Time’ is in stock now!
