Firstly, those of us of a certain age might find the name GALASPHERE 347 somehow vaguely familiar?
This was in fact the name of a spaceship (not the image portrayed on the album sleeve) that featured in the 60’s black & white TV programme: ‘Space Patrol’, a similar series to Gerry Anderson’s ‘Fireball XL5’ at the time. GALASPHERE 347 was crewed by three puppets: an Earthman captain, a Martian and a Venusian … take a trip back in time and check it out on YouTube!

Europe 2018—four musicians come together to make an album of Anglo-Scandinavian Symphonic Rock.
With pedigrees in bands such as: WHITE WILLOW, HENRY FOOL, ÄNGLAGÅRD, WESERBANDLAND, NECROMONKEY and the Tim Bowness band, GALASPHERE 347 bring an epic widescreen scale to their music.

This GALASPHERE 347’s crew are: Stephen Bennett (keyboards – mainly vintage and just too many to mention! / guitars / bass and more), Ketil Einarsen (flute / softsynths / programming), Jacob Holm-Lupo (guitars / bass / loops) and Mattias Olsson (drums / Mellotrons / guitars & more).
Their self-titled debut album is like a Progressive Rock cruise in outer space - with Stephen James Bennett at the helm. An amalgamation of the four band members’ collective musical past, stewed together in an intergalactic recording studio, bring to play their large collection of vintage and mysterious instruments: Mellotrons, Moogs, Oberheims and Korgs, Stratocasters and Les Pauls vie with Stylophones, Glockenspeils and Gizmotrons to create a distinctive sonic landscape punctuated with guitars, flute, synth and fuzzed organ solos.

The album features three long tracks that clock in at forty minutes in total … just about enough time to reach Jupiter at the speed of light! Mattias’s powerful and dynamic drumming intertwines with Jacob’s liquid bass and grinding guitars to provide the bedrock for Ketil’s mellifluous flute and Stephen’s lush analogue keyboards and passionate vocals.
The band’s influences are as varied as their geographical locations suggest, from the technical spectacle of Progressive Rock and the quaint stylings of the 70’s Canterbury scene to the distorted insistence of Krautrock, via the intimacy of the singer-songwriter’s oeuvre.
Think early KING CRIMSON meets early CARAVAN with maybe just a small splattering of early GENESIS!

Sensitively mixed by Jacob Holm-Lupo at Dude Ranch Studios, Sandøya, Norway and mastered by Andy Jackson, best known for his work with PINK FLOYD, GALASPHERE 347’s eponymous debut revels in lyrical passion and performance. Lyrically, the album is a loose concept about a night out in a city, the anticipation and disappointments, the pleasures and the pain, the love and the loss.
