2019 Remastered / Expanded Double CD edition of 1975 classic 4th album by semi-instrumental, dual keyboards led four-piece containing 11 Bonus Tracks!
Formed in 1972 by former COLOSSEUM keyboard player Dave Greenslade, the band also featured former WEB and SAMURAI member Dave Lawson (keyboards / vocals), former COLOSSEUM bass player Tony Reeves and drummer Andrew McCulloch (formerly with KING CRIMSON and FIELDS).
The calibre of the members of GREENSLADE ensured that the group would be innovative, ground breaking and dynamic in their musical approach and would also be notable due to the absence of a guitarist within their ranks.
Having two keyboard players gave this band a very unique sound and among the different keyboards used by Greenslade and Lawson are the Hammond organ, Mellotrons, Clavinet, electric piano and ARP synthesizer.
If you are a fan of the vintage Mellotron keyboard and you are not that familiar with this band’s music, we can thoroughly recommend GREENSLADE to you, because Dave Greenslade’s wide use of the instrument in pretty sensational, utilising the full range of unique sounds it had to offer: brass, strings and choirs, all of which are brilliantly represented alongside all the other analogue keyboards and a thoroughly amazing rhythm section, that includes a bass player that even takes a lead or two to create and exciting, dynamic and driving sound that is occasionally counterbalanced with more sensitive passages!
Following the release of the 1974 album: ‘Spyglass Guest’, Tony Reeves departed the band and was replaced by Martin Briley, who was to feature on the band’s next album. Originally issued in May 1975, ‘Time And Tide’ was the band’s final album of the 1970’s and was a fine record that featured such compositions as: ‘Flattery Stakes’, ‘Waltz For A Fallen Idol’, ‘Newsworth’ and ‘The Ass’s Ears’, plus the infectious instrumental: ‘Catalan’ and the haunting Mellotron-laden instrumental title track. The wonderfully atmospheric: ‘Doldrums’ precedes the track that closed the original album - the band’s theme to the BBC drama series: ‘Gangsters’ - a very catchy track which proved to be a very popular piece with fans and viewers alike.
This expanded edition of: ‘Time And Tide’ includes 2 Bonus Tracks on Disc # 1 and a Bonus ‘live’ CD featuring a superb sixty-minute concert recorded in Stockholm for Swedish Radio in March 1975.
Considered by many to be a band at their finest on stage, this ‘live’ recording has been Remastered from the original Swedish Radio Master Tapes, and offers a glimpse of the excellence of this short-lived line-up of the band in a ‘live’ environment and is released officially for the very first time!
This Expanded Edition of ‘Time And Tide’ has been Newly Remastered from the Original Master Tapes, and if this is as brilliantly done as the previous three recently remastered reissues on the same label, you can expect a superb audio clean-up job!
The 6-Panel Digi-Pak comes with a 24-Page Fully Illustrated Booklet that contains many Rare Cuttings and includes an essay by Malcolm Dome, plus exclusive interviews with Dave Greenslade and Dave Lawson.
‘Time And Tide’ is released on 22nd February 2019.
