Normally known as one of Europe’s leading keyboardists on the Electronic Music circuit with very many fine instrumental Synth albums under his belt, this is Gert’s 2nd venture into the world of melodic Progressive Rock!
Compared to its 2013 Prog predecessor: ‘Memories’, ‘Somewhere’ sounds more seventies oriented, and all the pure electronic influences found on the ‘Memories’ album are gone for this one. This is much more of a pure Prog release with plenty in the way of instrumental breaks that fans of the melodic, symphonic side of the Progressive genre will really enjoy.
Track lengths vary from epic to long with just a couple of shorter pieces, and you can clearly hear the influences of the likes of: Steve Hackett, Tony Banks, Eddie Jobson and many others on this semi-instrumental Prog crossover releases soaring through this music.
Apart from his undeniable talents on the keyboards, Emmens also plays all the other instruments himself on this album, including acoustic drums and guitar. Gert also handles all the vocal parts as well, and he actually has a pretty decent voice that works well in both solo and harmony modes.
A very nice album indeed!
