1st time on CD for two lesser-known gems released on the German IC label in the late 1970’s/early 80’s, both produced by none other than Klaus Schulze!

Giuseppe Banfi, aka Baffo Banfi, former keyboardist of Italian Progressive Rock band UN BIGLIETTO PER L’INFERNO, started a solo career in 1978 using the name JB Banfi with his debut album released on the Italian Milan based Red Records label. Entitled ‘Galaxy My Dear’, the album was entirely played by Banfi and included 5 long tracks, one of which, ‘Goodbye My Little Star’, was more than 18 minutes long.

Baffo’s musical style was deeply inspired by the visionary sounds of Cosmic electronic music, the "Berliner Schule", especially artists such as Klaus Schulze, Manuel Gottsching or TANGERINE DREAM, featuring gorgeous spaced out synthesized soundscapes with floating melodies.

One year later, Baffo signed contracts with Klaus Schulze's IC (Innovative Communications) label in Hambuhren, Germany and his 2nd solo album ‘Ma, Dolce Vita’ was released in 1979. Again Baffo played all the instruments and Klaus Schulze produced, recorded and mixed the album.
Schulze had already been approached to be the producer of UN BIGLIETTO PER L’INFERNO 's 2nd album, but the band split up and so that common project could never be realized.

In 1981 Baffo's 3rd album, his 2nd for IC, was released. Entitled ‘Hearth’, Klaus Schulze again produced the album, but for the first time this recording was to feature a rhythm section of guest musicians.
Following the release of ‘Hearth’, Baffo Banfi quit the music business and set up a video production studio based in Milan.

More than three decades later, in 2015, Baffo released the masterful ‘Frontera’ instrumental Synth / Prog (well, mostly Synth) crossover album together with the Italian sound-engineer, producer, composer and keyboard-player Matteo Cantaluppi. It seemed to miss the radar of most EM fans, indeed we only recently discovered its many joys and are making it available via CDS Towers alongside the ‘IC Years’.

Baffo Banfi’s ’IC Years’ comes in a Slim-line Double Disc Jewel Case with a 12-Page Booklet and it contains almost one and a half hours of classic 80’s EM all under the watchful eye of the master Klaus Schulze.

‘IC Years’ is released on 21st July 2023.
