MOON SAFARI is a Swedish Symphonic Progressive Rock band that first came to our attention back in 2003, when they became very popular with CDS customers.

As we have always taken pride in offering only the very best the Prog genre can offer, we felt that MOON SAFARI ticked all the boxes and were always going to go down well with our customers, so we have promoted every release with great enthusiasm.

MOON SAFARI's brand of symphonic Prog is majestic and magically melodic ... essential for SAGA and CAMEL fans alike! They feature some of the finest vocal arrangements the Prog genre can offer ... something that can make of break a Prog album and an area where many have fallen by the wayside...but not MOON SAFARI.

The band focuses on vocal arrangements that willingly surrender to the spirit of 60’s/70’s Rock, Pop and Progressive Rock music, previously invoked by the likes of the BEATLES, the BEACH BOYS and YES.

A long time in the making, ‘Himlabacken-Vol.2’ follows the line of their previous works, containing the same melodic quality as before, exceptionally high standard of their playing and stunningly good vocals, especially the fantastic close harmony work that can have the effect of widening the band’s audience much further a-field than just pure Progressive Rock.

If you can imagine a melding of CAMEL (for guitars & keyboards) with SAGA (for keyboards), some SPOCK’S BEARD and FLOWER KINGS (for track construction) and a bit of Chris Rainbow (for the vocals and harmonies) you will be on the right track for how this band sound.
Playing a mixture of long to medium length tracks with a lot of extended instrumental passages and truly outstanding vocals, they are truly one of the finest Symphonic Prog bands around these days.

The current musician line-up is: Simon Åkesson (keyboards / vocals), Petter Sandström (acoustic guitar / vocals), Pontus Åkesson (electric guitar / vocals), Johan Westerlund (bass guitar / vocals), Mikael Israelsson (drums / keyboards) and Sebastian Åkesson (misc / vocals).

They have toured their music in Japan, North America and mainland Europe, all countries with plentiful fans of quality Progressive Rock.

‘Himlabacken-Vol.2’ was released on December 2023, but it is only now that we have been allowed to offer it to CDS customers.
