2nd album from Symphonic Prog project making instrumental music in a 70’s melodic style like GENESIS & GREENSLADE or Tony Banks & Rick Wakeman!
If you like the sounds of vintage seventies keyboards, guitars bass and drums, you’ll adore this little gem I can tell you now! This CD as utterly amazing! You could view this as the album that someone of the stature of the likes of Tony Banks should have made as a solo album all those years ago, although in truth it is more like what I would call a GENESIS ‘Selling England By The Pound’ period instrumental album.
Not only that, but fans of GREENSLADE and classic early Rick Wakeman will get a lot out of this album as well.
The tracks are long, ranging from between ten and seventeen minutes, with just one short piece clocking up four minutes. There’s loads of stunning melodic synth work, masses of “real” Mellotron (strings, choirs, brass etc.), thick walls of Hammond organ, sweeping melodic electric guitars, finely tuned intricate acoustic and twelve-string guitars and a fine rhythm section of bass and drums that knits everything together perfectly. You also get some wistful flute just to add that final magical touch that brings the sound of late 60’s/early 70’s Gabriel period GENESIS back to life.
In short, this album has basically everything an “instrumental” GENESIS fan could ever want - perfect progressive rock that has its roots firmly fixed in the seventies, but production-wise, sounds fresh as a daisy in 2008.
I really can’t heap enough praise on what WILLOWGLASS has achieved here, and there’s not too much else I can say except it looks great, sounds fantastic, and I got goose bumps at regular intervals the first time I played it – Always a good sign! - Just buy it now – it will be the best tenner you’ve spent in ages!
