12 superbly crafted A.O.P. tracks from the keyboards wizard in ASIA, YES & BUGGLES and the vocalist from PANIC ROOM & KARNATAKA!

ASIA / BUGGLES / YES keyboardist’s latest album under the New Dance Orchestra banner and here he is joined by the wonderful voice of Anne-Marie Helder (Panic Room / Karnataka)!

For your money you are getting twelve high-quality, well crafted synthesizer driven tracks full of big hooks and catchy choruses from Downes’ huge armoury of keyboards and the stunningly pure vocal talents of Helder.
No way by any manner of means could you ever refer to this music as “Prog” - I would call it A.O.P. (Adult Oriented Pop) that will appeal to a wide cross section of hard-core YES / ASIA fans – for who it is as much as anything else - and definitely to BUGGLES avids and those who were into the likes of ERASURE from the past, and perhaps for the present, the German protagonist of slick electronic pop that is the brilliant and rather massive talent (in Europe anyway) that is SCHILLER!
Geoff Downes composed and skilfully performed all the music and penned the lyrics for each track on the album, and to be honest, some of them wouldn’t sound all that out of place on an ASIA album!
Anne-Marie Helder delivers some stellar vocal performances and demonstrates not only what a fine singer she is, but also how versatile she can be when turning her vocal chords to, shall we say, something more commercial.
The overall feel of ‘Electronica’ is very much 80’s electro pop (thinking Howard Jones, a bit YAZOO and a good deal of ERASURE perhaps) with the arrangements formed from keyboards and programmed rhythms, but tracks like these from the hands of such an experienced player as Downes sound so much more musical and classier than they might from a current day soft synths rookie in front of a lap-top.

‘Electronica’ is a very good piece of work, and I just hope that all Prog fans can admit the fact and allow themselves the guilty pleasure of openly enjoying it for what it is… an extremely enjoyable pop album, for say… the more mature music lover.
